American hard rock band Guns N’ Roses is set to perform at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Senayan tonight and they may have a very special guest in attendance: Indonesia’s Metalhead of State.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, widely known as a huge fan of hard rock and heavy metal, says he might pop down to the stadium to watch the rock legends rock GBK.
“I’ll decide tonight, could be yes or no,” President Jokowi told reporters this morning, as quoted by Merdeka.
Jokowi said he already has a packed schedule today, so he still doesn’t know if he could make it to the concert.
“But, if I have any spare time, I would love to see them,” Jokowi added.
The concert promoter said they have invited President Jokowi to attend as a special guest.
President Jokowi previously attended a Guns N’ Roses concert in Jakarta back when he was still the Governor of Jakarta in 2012. In 2013, he also went to see his favorite metal band, Metallica.
If Jokowi does end up going tonight, he says he’s looking forward to hearing one particular song from the legendary band.
“Sweet Child O’ Mine,” he said.
Jokowi may be the world’s only head of state with an avowed interest in metal. A fan of the genre since middle school, he claims to own every Metallica album and that the “loud music helps clear his thoughts”.
Jokowi’s musical preferences are not just limited to heavy metal, though. Last year, he was spotted among a bunch of millennials watching Charli XCX and Kodaline in concert at the We The Fest music festival in Jakarta.
