New Game - Five Card Holdout Poker

Just starting at the Commerce.

Five Card Holdout Poker

http://omegagaming-usa.com/five-card-hold-out/
Might be fun to share some notes, get ahead of the learning curve, and play against all (by definition!) the eager and curious noobs who just might want to play this deviant cross between holdem, omaha and college dorm poker.

Seems kind of gimmicky, but I guess there"s always room for more games

Now if they also included passing cards to the Villains on our left and our right...

Most casinos will not pay a licensing fee for a poker game (pit games, where you lose money to the House, are a different story).

Yeah that was my thought as well. It makes stuff like this dead in the water.

It"s no Pimp Guts, but I think I could work it into the rotation at my infrequent dealer"s choice home game ($.05/$.10/$.25). Do I have to pay a licensing fee?

So 5 cards in hand and 4 community cards but before any community cards are dealt, you have the option of discarding up to 4 of your cards in hand. Any cards you keep, have to play at showdown with the remainder of your 5 card hand being the best cards on the board.

Is this about right?

That actually raises an important question, how is there a licensing fee related to a poker game that isn"t played against the house? Does a casino have to pay a licensing fee to play hold "em or Omaha?

My local casino just started offering short deck. I can"t believe there"s a fee related to that. Just seems odd that there would be a licensing fee related to a poker game where players play against each other

That"s how I read it...For example, If you keep 3 cards, you play those 3 with two from the board. If you keep 1 card, you play that with 4 from the board.

Re: New Game - Five Card Holdout Poker

The only way I can see this being played in a cardroom, is if the room is given an x month trial for free, and the game generates a hell of a lot of revenue. No way does any room pay for this, otherwise.

It can probably be modified to be a new pit game, though.

Ha ha. You think gaming regulators are there to serve the gaming public? They exist to make sure every nickel the government can grab from a casino is grabbed.

I"m sure the stupid regulations vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction but I"ve heard stupid fees/fines stories in them all---fine for not displaying game placard, fine for improperly worn badges, fees for decommissioning slot machines, requiring contractors (vending machine repairmen, pest control) to pay for temporary gaming licenses to get on the floor.

Of course they are going to charge for a new game.

I would only play this game if they added nil cards to the deck.

Re: New Game - Five Card Holdout Poker

The rules don"t say so, but I"m guessing this game is intended to be played shorthanded? It couldn"t be played at a place like Borgata, where the cash tables are 10-handed. I guess in a 9-handed game, all 52 cards would be used exactly after taking into account the burn cards.

Re: New Game - Five Card Holdout Poker

Interesting. Sounds similar to a DC HG variation that I picked up from a podcast. Scrotum plays with 5 cards dealt, pitching 0-5, must play all from your remaining hand.

4 community cards obviously changes a lot, but keeps the same number of betting rounds.

If you pitch all 5, you play the board, paying bets along the way. In theory, could produce a winner, but has not yet happened in practice.

As with many of our games, it"s a game of very strong hands/draws. Full houses are not as strong, with hidden quads and SF showing up often enough.

Winning players are the ones that are making nut lows and/or getting paid with a hidden big hand.

I imagine in the casino setting, there are a lot of players putting in bets with Ace high flushes, and getting crushed. Since we play a few games were the high hands are going to be big full houses or better, that hasn"t been as big an issue.

Just wondering why you quoted someone that was talking about a licensing fee and then you were saying how the government makes sure they get their money. Licensing fees do not go to the government so, I was asking...
